Food Allergy Reaction Report: Your Voice Matters
Welcome to the Food Allergy Reaction Report page! This platform is dedicated to empowering food hypersensitive (FHS) individuals—including those managing food allergies, coeliac disease, and food intolerances—as well as food business operators (FBOs) to report food allergy incidents and near misses when eating out.
Who Can Use This Page?
We invite Food Hypersensitive customers and Food Business Operators to report incidents from any hospitality sector, including:
- Hotels, restaurants, cafes, event catering, and festivals.
- Educational settings (nurseries, schools, colleges, universities, and activity groups), including issues with food or within the curriculum and classroom environment.
- Hospital catering and travel sectors, including airlines, airports, boats, trains, and their terminals.
Why are we collating the information?
Currently, there’s no unified system for reporting food allergy reactions in the UK, and local authorities only intervene in severe cases or fatalities. This lack of centralised data makes it difficult to track the frequency and causes of incidents.
Our goal is to:
- Create a centralised database for reports from both FHS customers and FBOs.
- Help food hypersensitive consumers understand how and where to report incidents.
- Raise awareness about food allergen management and provide insights to prevent future occurrences.
What We Do with the Information
While we will not investigate individual cases, if we identify serious risks or recurring issues, we have a duty of care to notify the relevant FBO and/or local authority. Where contact details are provided, we may reach out to discuss and advise appropriate action. We DO NOT name and shame venues we want to encourage the sharing of information as preventative tool!
Benefits of Reporting
- Identify trends and serious risks.
- Support FHS consumers by highlighting key challenges.
- Educate hospitality businesses to improve their food allergen management procedures.
- Prevent similar incidents, ensuring safer experiences for all.
Food Safety is Not a Competition, Lets share best practice!
This page is for you if...
- You noticed an issue at a venue and prevented an incident.
- You or someone you know experienced an allergic reaction, symptoms of food intolerance, or a reaction linked to coeliac disease after eating out.
- You’ve tried reporting the issue to the venue but received no response.
Every incident matters, whether it’s an allergic reaction, an issue with a meal containing an ingredient you need to avoid, or any scenario that raises concerns about food allergen safety.
How We Use Reports
By sharing information anonymously, we can:
- Highlight best practices.
- Educate FBOs on managing food allergies and intolerances effectively.
- Protect FHS customers from similar or more severe incidents.
